From back cover: You may have heard that a total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You may also know that there are people who chase eclipses around the world. But why would an astronomical event be of interest to you?
This book describes what it is like to experience a total eclipse for the first time, using personal stories of people just like you. These people happened to be in the right place – at the right time – to experience one of nature’s most spectacular events. Read their personal stories of what the experience was like, and how they made sense of it. And then, make sure to see a total solar eclipse at least once in your life. But be warned – it could change your life.
This book is written for a general audience and is perfectly suited for those living in the path of totality, or those thinking of traveling to the path of totality for the next total solar eclipse in August 2017 in the U.S. It is the only book that features personal stories from ordinary people.
I researched this book when I was in North Queensland in 2012, interviewing these individuals within two weeks of their first total eclipse. They were still buzzing. These people are able to describe their expectations, the experience and the impact of the eclipse, and how the experience has influenced their thinking about their life. For some, it confirmed something that they had already discovered about themselves. For others, it was an opportunity to take a new direction or focus in life.
What I can say – the eclipse experience appears to be universally about feeling a connection. A feeling of being a part of something bigger. Of selecting a path in life that is true to a person’s values.
Pre-orders will be announced shortly, and the book will be launched in early June. I will be doing launch activities in the UK and the US. Watch this space! Make sure to sign up to the newsletter for key announcements.
